Consultation has concluded

In October the community voted on two designs for Kotuku park playground. During this stage we heard feedback that the equipment choices weren’t quite right, so we met with locals to fine-tune the designs and we ran a second round of voting. You can read more on the first voting stages at Round 1 information.

Votes closed on 21 December 2020 and showed that option 2 is the favoured design.

Option 2 includes a full swing set (two for toddlers, two for older kids), a pod swing, module with climbing net and slide, cube climbing nets and rock-climbing wall, slatted barrel for exploring, see-saw and wooden boat, alongside natural seating and planting.

Installation will be completed by June 2021 and we will update the community on our Facebook page when construction is beginning, but reassured it will be after the January school holidays.

    Previous consultation with the community

In July 2020 you told us what you’d like to see at your park. We heard the following from a good selection of the community:

    • this playground is popular, and has equipment that suits all ages
    • the park as a whole is popular with its natural environment, play, dog-walking and socialising opportunities
    • it feels like a safe area for children to come and play, either by themselves or as part of a bigger group
    • some people like the pirate wheel and some don’t; a moving wheel would be good
    • the rocks around the periphery are enjoyed by kids as they allow natural play and seating for adults
    • the equipment needs to not squeak or make noise over and above children having fun
    • picnic tables and more seating are needed, to connect the wider green space and the playground
    • graduated equipment that has a focus on climbing and upper body skills are also needed
    • there were varying views on what colour equipment should be, natural versus colourful, or something in between
    • potentially more signage is required regarding dogs and no motorised recreation
    • swings and a spinning component are important
    • there is an opportunity to look at adding a bigger slide.
