Shifting to a low-carbon Kāpiti
Consultation has concluded
Our climate emergency framework adopted in 2021 outlines a vision where Kāpiti has significantly reduced its carbon footprint and shifted to a low-carbon future.
Since 2012, Council has made good progress on reducing our corporate emissions. Councillors now want to look at whether we should set a districtwide target for cutting carbon emissions.
Central government has set the overall direction of travel with a national target of net zero by 2050. Some councils have followed their lead by setting targets for the whole district. Some are aligned to the national target; others have more aspirational targets or targets that are more relevant for their city or district.
A districtwide target requires a districtwide effort. This is not something we can do alone. Everyone needs to do their bit. This survey will provide councillors with information on your understanding of Council’s role, and your interest in pursuing the individual and collective actions needed to work towards a districtwide target.
