Each year we carry out a regular renewal programme for playgrounds, as equipment gets near the end of its shelf life. Anything that can still be used is either kept in place or relocated.

We aim to create playgrounds that are accessible, fun, varied, and cater for a wide range of abilities. Our goal is to design interesting playgrounds and open spaces that meet the needs of both children and their caregivers.

If you have a question that we haven't covered on our playground information page, please ask us here and we'll be back in touch.

What does 'reaching the end of its safe playing life' mean?

bounceabout asked almost 3 years ago

Hi, and thank you for your question.

All playground equipment needs to meet national standards for play safety, so they can be used and enjoyed by everyone. Our staff visit the playgrounds to check the safety of the equipment, and we also get messages from the public when equipment is damaged, not working as it should or getting worn out.

This information, along with keeping track of when each playground was last renewed (and therefore has older equipment in it), helps us decide which playground to focus on renewing each year.
