Revamping Shotover Grove Reserve playground
Consultation has concluded
The playground equipment at Shotover Grove Reserve is reaching the end of its safe playing life, so we're revamping it. Thank you for all your ideas, suggestions, and feedback you've provided. We really appreciate your commitment to the community.
Next steps
The design has been finalised for the revamped Shotover Grove Reserve playground. It is based on what you told us during our public consultation through the survey, ideas board and the feedback from the focus group.
Installation will be completed in the 2022/23 financial year. We'll update you on the page when an exact date is set.

Some open ended play spaces would be great. Things that need imagination to make them be fun. Like terraced areas, "building" resources.
It's been great to see things added of late in NZ playgrounds that physically challenge our children. ie there is some ability to hurt yourself if you are not careful. As in climbing ropes, hamster wheels. I'd like to see more of this kind of thing. and also equipment that does not tell you how to use it and can be used in many ways imaginatively. I also think it's important that some equipment is accessible to differently abled people and there are seating areas available. https://www.sciencenews.org/article/playground-design-kids-exercise-physical-activity

Miniramp halfpipe
It would be great to add a miniramp as kapiti is lacking this type of facility. Good to get people of all ages active outside.

Toddler friendly
Equipment which is easy for toddlers to climb and play on without gaps that they can easily fall off. Tunnels to climb through and a big slide would be great. Something that makes music would be cool too. We live right by the Matuhi St playground but very rarely use it as the equipment there is not so toddler friendly.

Safe pieces for younger kids
A few of us in the are have children under 2 and would love some playground pieces that are safer but also not boring for them which seems quite hard to find. Ideally just a few parts that aren’t to high but enclosed so they can’t slip through the holes but are fun so a little more than just some stairs and one slide ☺️

Variety and a half pipe
Our boys are 4 and 1, they love all sorts of playground equipment. It would be great to have more shade and a variety of play areas that cater for wide age range. A small half pipe ramp would be ideal to encourage rollerblading, skateboarding and biking at a manageable scale – useable for all ages and stages.
