We want to know if you agree with our proposal to adopt a Freedom Camping Bylaw, and whether we’ve got the restricted sites and things like the allowed duration of stay and number of available parks right.

We're proposing 11 sites be defined as restricted under the new Bylaw. These are:


This would increase the total number of campervan parking spaces from 24 to 36, and with maximum stays of 48 hours at each.

You will notice the Ōtaki River mouth site is not on this list. This is because the Council doesn't own all of the land. We're working with the agencies responsible for the land and iwi to help determine how this land should be managed.

Your feedback and confidentiality

Your feedback may be published on our website and provided in hardcopies in our libraries. If you are providing information as an individual and do not wish your name included when feedback is published, please tick this option at the end of the form. 

If the feedback is from an organisation, the organisation’s name will be published. 

Councillors will consider your feedback as they make their final decision on how freedom camping will be managed in our district in the future. 

If you wish to speak to your submission at a public hearing, we'll contact you using the email address you used to sign up for your Have Your Say account.
