Using this Site

This page explains how to use this site and why we are asking for certain information. If you cannot find an answer to your question please email HaveYourSay@kapiticoast.govt.nz

Using haveyoursay.kapiticoast.govt.nz

Each project page gives an overview in the top left, with more information on the far right or by scrolling down the page. Under the project overview there are one or more grey tabs. Click on the text or the content you want to see, and the page will display below. If we are asking for public feedback, you can find ways to let us know your thoughts by clicking each tab. The titles of the tabs may vary for each project page – if there is a tab called 'more', click the down arrow, and more options will display.

Registering

Registering is quick and simple; it helps you stay connected and informed on projects that interest you and it helps us better understand who we’re engaging with. It also means discussions and results can’t be manipulated by someone leaving many comments supporting their own view.

Your personal details won’t appear online – only your personalised user name (which you create) will display, along with your thoughts. We advise that if you want to remain anonymous, you do not use your name as a username.

Note that some fields in the registration form are required, and we’ve given an explanation for each one.

Protecting your privacy

Your privacy is protected, as Have your say is hosted and moderated by an external independent service provider, Bang the Table. No third parties have access to or will be given your details. For further information, see our privacy policy.

Why we’ve chosen online engagement

Have your say is just one of the tools we use to understand what matters most to our community. Online engagement lets you to have your say when and where it suits you, unlike public forums or formal submissions. It's a quick and safe way to get involved on a range of issues and topics. Have your say helps you stay informed on projects that interest you, and follow the journey as projects progress. It also lets you see what other members of the community think about particular issues, and lets you have a two-way conversation, unlike more traditional methods.

Your feedback

Your feedback is collected, along with other comments, ideas and suggestions, and used to inform Council decisions. We use this online data, alongside face-to-face consultations like workshops, focus groups and listening posts. (Note that these may not all be happening at the same time.)

Once all of this information is collected, our staff write a summary report, which is required and considered by elected members. Check out each project page to find out what the project’s timeline is, and when feedback is due to be reported to elected members.

Troubleshooting

Email address already taken

There are a couple of possibilities:

  • someone else in your family has used your email address to create an account
  • you have used this site before, and forgotten your sign-in details; if so, see Forgotten password and/or username.

Forgotten password and/or username

Forgotten your password or username? Don't worry, we all do it. We've tried to make this process as simple as possible:

  1. Click "Login" on the top right of the screen.
  2. Click "Forgotten password" under the "Sign in" button.
  3. Type your email address, and click "Enter".
Result: You will receive an email with your username, and a link back to the site. Click that link to reset your password.
  4. Sign in with your old username and new password.

No activation email

If you haven’t received an activation email, there are a few reasons this might have happened:

  • The email may have gone into your "Spam" email folder. Check there first.
  • Your email service provider may have a very strong firewall that’s blocking the activation email. This does happen sometimes – contact your service provider.
  • You may have typed your email address incorrectly – it's very easy to accidentally use a comma instead of a fullstop if you're in a rush. An accidental fullstop or underscore can make all the difference!

Editing your profile

To update or edit your profile:

  • Log into your account on the Have your say site.
Result: Once you're logged in you'll see your username above the Homepage banner, in the top right-hand corner.
  • Click the dropdown arrow
Result: This brings up a menu.
  • Click "Profile", and make any updates.
  • Click "Save"
