The playground equipment at Ferndale Drive Park in Waikanae has reached the end of its safe playing life, so we're upgrading it. This is part of our capital works programme budgeted for in our Long-term plan.

Our proposed design concepts for new playground equipment retain the same play values as the existing equipment, although some of the features may have changed. Our goal is to design an interesting playground that meets the needs of both children and their caregivers. We also want the new design to complement the play equipment available at surrounding playgrounds.

Our design for Ferndale Park playground is specifically for tamariki aged one to six years. It offers a carefully chosen mix of equipment that encourages physical activity, social play, and creative imagination.

Highlights include:

  • Double Bay Swing Set with basket, toddler, and strap seats for all ages and abilities
  • 3m Pico Net Custom Play Unit for climbing adventures
  • 4-IN-A-ROW Play Panel for interactive and social play
  • Bee Rocker for imaginative, bouncy fun
  • Natural Play elements that connect kids with the outdoors

The entire play area will have fully accessible Play Matta surfacing, making it safe and easy for tamariki of all abilities to enjoy.

This design creates an inclusive, active, and imaginative playground experience perfect for our youngest Tamariki!
