Help drive our economy forward and tell us what you think

We were finalising our refreshed Economic Development Strategy to continue to position Kāpiti for a vibrant, thriving and sustainable future.

Fostering a vibrant economy and ensuring our community has access to education and employment opportunities is one of Council’s top 10 priorities.

Our Economic Development Strategy 2020-23 delivered some great outcomes, but we still were facing local challenges in a national economy that’s been doing it tough. We want to attract investment in our district that will support business, improve employment and training pathways, and provide infrastructure to sustain a growing and more prosperous population.

In early 2024, we collaborated with the Economic Development Kotahitanga Board (EDKB) to identify focus areas and shifts we believe will help drive our economy forward. We then sought feedback from local businesses and the community through our Vision Kāpiti process and developed a proposed direction of travel for further feedback.

Taking the feedback from this engagement, we have developed our draft Economic Development Strategy 2025-27. This has been workshopped with key sectors and business associations – and we also asked for your feedback.
