Free BBQ and chat with Council and Kāpiti Mountain Bike Club

12–2pm Waikanae Park (end of rugby fields)

Council staff and Kapiti MTB club have been around Waikanae Park hill, checking out some of the do-it-yourself bike tracks that have been popping up. We’ve been walking the hills (and jumping into a few of the holes!) to get a real sense of the terrain, the steep drops, and the jump locations, and yes, photos never quite do the scale justice!

While some of the current tracks and features are unsafe and need to be removed, we get it, this isn’t about shutting down fun. It’s about ensuring the space can work better for everyone, now and in the future, through best practices.

That’s why this Sunday, we’re inviting local young riders and their whānau to come down for a Free BBQ and kōrero.

Meet the crew, share your thoughts, and be part of the conversation about what mountain biking in the park could look like moving forward, using the NZ MTB guidelines to inform good track-building practices.
