The future Waikanae Library
Consultation has concluded
We're investigating options for the permanent Waikanae Library and Service Centre replacement, following the closure of the building in November 2018. We’re committed to having a library in Waikanae, so we’ve been working with a Project Advisory Group made up of community members, iwi, and business and school representatives, which confirmed the preferred location for the future library is in Mahara Place.

Extended hours, more events, more space and books!
I'd love to see extended hours (ie a late night) and evening events as I work in Wellington. Appreciate that this requires extra staffing! I like to browse shelves, so a greater range of books on site would be great. Agree with the other posts that accessibility is important - wider paths between shelves, large print, computers and computer literacy support etc. Our elderly community is a treasure in Waikanae, need to make the space great for them.

Make a new Waikanae Library happen, it is a priority!
Libraries are great places, they provide all sorts of different things to different people, they help to make towns feel healthy and happy. It is vital Waikanae has a good sized, comfortable, light and bright library full of a wide range of books. I live in Waikanae and I go to the library twice a week to fill up our reading piles, it is currently frustrating to have such a limited range of books in the 'pop up'. My 8 year old loves books and I want him to be able to walk or bike to his local library and choose his own books, for the library to have space for him to sit and read.

Larger and less cluttered library which we need NOW! Not in 2 to 3 yrs. More seating away from the books and computers for public use.

I would suggest those on the Council responsible for creating a new Library for Waikanae take the time to visit the new Johnsonville Library

A brand new library for Waikane!
It should also have other services like JP, CAB, Age Concern etc, and meeting rooms to hire.
