Ara Hāpai

Our libraries play an important role in the fabric of the communities they serve. As communities evolve and develop, so does the role a library plays in its community.

We’ve started on a journey called Ara Hāpai to understand what makes our community tick and how our libraries can best support locals.

The name Ara Hāpai refers to a pathway that uplifts and supports people. It conveys our commitment to a responsive and inclusive library service.

Ara Hāpai is not a one-off project; it’s an ongoing journey to set up our library services so it can continue to help current and future communities thrive.

Foundation pillars

We’ve developed a set of draft high-level ‘pillars’ for reimagining the future of Kapiti’s libraries.

The final pillars will form the building blocks for the ongoing evolution of the district’s libraries as well as shaping the development of the new or upgraded Waikanae Library / Service Centre.

We’d like to know your thoughts on the draft pillars and the detail that could site beneath each one.

We have developed a set of draft high-level ‘pillars’ for reimagining the future of Kāpiti’s libraries. Our vision is that the final pillars will form the building blocks for the ongoing evolution of the district’s libraries as well as shaping the development of the new or upgraded Waikanae Library / Service Centre. Now we need your help to finalize what these could look like?  Do we have these right?  What else could change or add?  Lets talk!

Looking at the Pillars, how could your libraries put each of these Pillars into action to support our communities?
