Feedback on the re-zoning and reassignment of these Council-owned sites closed at 5pm Wednesday 11 May 2022. If you have any questions, please email district.planning@kapiticoast.govt.nz

This draft District Plan change will enable us to:

  • re-zone 14 Council-owned sites from General Residential Zone to Open Space and Recreation Zones
  • reassign two Council-owned sites from Natural Open Space Zone to Open Space Zone (Recreation Precinct).

Our District Plan includes areas zoned Open Space, to make sure sufficient Council-owned land is identified and retained for natural environment, local parks, and recreation.

As we have more residential development in the district, additional areas may be identified for open space in a development, and land can be gifted to the Council for this purpose when a subdivision is created.

To keep the District Plan up to date and ensure uses of newly created open space areas are covered by District Plan provisions, we occasionally need to review these changes and update zonings.

Plan change 1L seeks to:

  • update 14 areas in the district to re-zone them as Open Space Zones
  • reassign two Council-owned sites from Natural Open Space Zone to Open Space Zone (Recreation Precinct).

There’ll be no actual changes in the wording of the objectives, policies, or rules in the District Plan. However, if you want to read more about different zone classifications you can read about these in Part 3 - Area Specific Matters of the District Plan.

You can find out more about the Draft plan change 1L on our website.
